The New York Film Academy offers one-, three-, four- and six-week summer camps for high-school students interested in film, acting, broadcast journalism, digital photography, screenwriting, journalism, musical theatre, video-game design or 3D animation. Camps provide each student the opportunity to play a valuable role in the production of a film while receiving the hands-on instruction needed to perfect their craft.

At this four-week summer program held at Barnard College, students can enrich their academic experience and get a head start on college while living in New York City. Students in grades 11 and 12 will have the chance to discover New York City in and out of the classroom while taking fascinating classes with world-renowned faculty, exploring careers and interests from architecture to outer space, making friends from around the world, and getting a head start on college applications through our admissions workshops.

This four-week intensive program gives high-school students who are between 16 and 18 years old the opportunity to sharpen their portfolios, get a taste of college life, and earn college credits. The program consists of four classes, as well as lectures and cultural and social events. Students pick one of the credit-bearing electives offered and are automatically enrolled in a Foundation class (also credit-bearing), an Art History/Appreciation class, and a Portfolio Development class, (both are non-credit, pass/fail courses) to complement their chosen elective. Upon completion of the program, students earn four elective college credits.

This five-day workshop for students in grades 10 through 12 who have not yet taken a formal forensics course explores the various disciplines that fall under the umbrella of forensic science including biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, Earth science, and more. The program complements students’ high-school science curriculum and challenges them to think, investigate and solve problems. This workshop can serve to help students to decide if they are interested in taking forensics in high school. The focus of the first four days concentrates upon the development of skills and techniques that will be utilized to process a mock crime scene on the final day as the culmination of a week full of hard work, learning and fun. This is a commuter course held on Stony Brook University’s Stony Brook, N.Y. campus.

These 5-day programs provide instruction in video game design, digital video production, and a variety of software applications. Campers may attend several weeks. The curriculum is continuous with no repetition from week to week. Open to students age 7-18, with computer backgrounds from absolute beginner to super advanced. Classes are offered in 2D and 3D Video Game Design; Digital Video Production;Web Page Design; Computer Languages; Software Applications; Preparation for the Network+ Certification and Preparation for the A+ Hardware Certification. 

In this four-week program, motivated students are introduced to the techniques used in modern biotechnology research. The students begin by learning concepts and techniques as a class but quickly move to working in small groups or with a partner. During their stay, students learn about areas of scientific research from the SUNY-Stony Brook faculty. A background in biology is required and chemistry is recommended.

The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s DNA Learning Center offers one-week summer courses for students in grades six through 12. Participants learn to use sophisticated equipment and perform experiments several grade levels ahead of their peers. High-school students will participate in programs such as “DNA Science,” “Genome Science” and “DNA Barcoding Research.”

In this 1-week program on economics and leadership, economics professors and nationally recognized leadership facilitators lead in-depth discussions and activities designed to teach participants to understand and appreciate different leadership styles, develop insight into economic behavior, and foster an economic way of thinking about public policy choices. These leadership retreats are held on prestigious college campuses across the United States and combine leadership and economics instruction.

 

 

The CCNY Scholars Academy is a summer program that provides highly motivated high school students an opportunity to enroll in challenging mathematics and science courses in a 5-week intensive program

 

The Summer Business Institute (SBI) program is LEAD’s longest-running Summer Institute and is considered the “flagship” program. The three- to four-week SBI program for rising high-school seniors exposes students to business principles and the skill sets needed for successful business careers. The program challenges them through applied learning experiences often facilitated by college professors, links students to corporate executives in business fields and peers with similar aspirations and abilities. During LEAD SBIs, students reside and attend classes on-campus at a select number of the nation’s top business schools. SBIs provide diverse, high-achieving students with the opportunity to explore finance, entrepreneurship, accounting and marketing, among other business sectors.

The National Audubon Society offers a variety of camps throughout the country. Students explore the natural environments through ornithology and herpetology research, large mammal tracking, and backpacking trips.

The Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI) mentors and trains young women in high school and college to be proactive, principle-driven leaders of tomorrow in fields that transform society and our political system for the betterment of women. Using the dynamic political and strategic leadership skills of the legendary lawyer, politician and activist Bella Abzug, BALI helps young women build the confidence and techniques necessary to be effective and visionary leaders in a wide variety of fields, and active participants in civic, corporate, political and community life. Students in the BALI high school program participate in a two-week intensive debate and leadership training program led by our training partner, Impact Coalition, Inc.

For more than 20 years, the National Student Leadership Conference has invited a select group of outstanding high-school students to participate in its one-week summer sessions in subjects including business and entrepreneurship; culinary arts and restaurant management; education; engineering; forensic science; national security; international diplomacy; journalism, film and media arts; law; medicine; politics; sports and entertainment management; and theater. Sponsored by the National Student Leadership Foundation, the NSLC provides students with the opportunity to experience life on a college campus; develop essential leadership skills; and explore a future career through exciting simulations and interactive meetings with renowned leaders in their chosen fields. Through a partnership with American University, NSLC offers college credit hours for its high-school summer programs. Students live on campus at colleges and universities around the country.
